The Dee Why Rugby Club, as with many other volunteer organisations, exists to provide a service to the community. In the case of Dee Why Rugby, that service is the provision of the game of Rugby to any members in the community who would like to play. The provision of this service is only possible with the help of the many volunteers who give their time to assist in any way. This can be coaching, managing, training or one of the many roles which go to making your time at Dee Why Rugby an enjoyable experience.

Due to the efforts of our many volunteers, the Dee Why Rugby Club has, in recent years, been able to construct a canteen and storage facility, and install new field lighting to improve the safety of our players whilst playing or training after dark. We have also seen some pleasing increases in our registration numbers resulting in Dee Why Rugby having the 2nd highest junior registration numbers in the Warringah district. In addition, the establishment of teams in the subbies, Under 85kgs, over 35s and an all girls Rugby team in recent years, is a sign that the Dee Why Rugby Club’s endeavours to be able to include the whole community in playing Rugby is beginning to come to fruition. This is all only possible because of the great volunteers, who give their time to making sure that the members of the Dee Why Rugby Club community are enjoying their time with the club.

In recent years one of the areas the club has been focussing on has been the promotion of the game and the club by attending school fetes, holding clinics at schools with the assistance of the ARU, TahMan and several Waratah and Wallaby players, and attending events like the very popular Dee Why Beach BBQ on Australia Day. These events have been very successfully manned and run by many members of the Dee Why Rugby community over the years and have been instrumental in the resultant increase we have seen in registrations at the club.

These activities have also only been possible with our well-run social and fundraising committee helping to provide the much needed funding for these activities. Our tireless fundraising committee have run several trivia nights, dinner-dances, raffles and have just recently kicked-off the Annual Dee Why Rugby Club Golf Day. All of these activities have been successful in raising the much needed funds to enable the club to operate successfully and provide improved facilities for our players and members.

The recent establishment of our sponsorship committee, enjoying immediate success in securing several new, local and strong sponsors, has also ensured that the club will be able to cover it’s operating expenses, and at the same time, provide improved facilities for the next few years.

The establishment of the canteen has also been a major boost to the ability of the club to operate effectively, with all home games now being an opportunity for the club to raise some funds and to also provide a great service to our Rugby loving spectators.

These are just some of the examples of how the Dee Why Rugby Club depends on it’s volunteers to be able to provide such a great service to the community. We are also always looking for more helpers, so if there is anyway in which you might be able to help, please contact either your coach or manager, or one of your committee members to let us know.
